VEX ROBOTICS

Engineering Club

VEX Robotics hosts annual competitions which require the best built robots to compete against one another to complete different tasks. Each team is allowed to have two robots in each match to score the most points. There is an additional autonomous period before each match where both teams have the opportunity for their bots to showcase their programmed technique.

The smaller robot could lift a single cube at a time and supported the larger one during each match. Building the robots works hand in hand with our technique during the game. By capitalizing on our robot’s strengths, we won the California State tournament, sending us to VEX WORLDS Robotics Competition where we competed with robots across the globe.

The challenge for 2014 was to build a pole out of partitioned spokes and stack as many cubes as possible on the poles throughout the course. The goal was simple, the more blocks you stack, the more points you get. Our strategy for the large robot was to collect and stack up to three blocks using a reverse double four bar lift mechanisms. We took advantage of pneumatics air pump system and calculated gear ratios. Our smaller robot focused on placing the poles which allowed the larger robot to focus on stacking.
